In the past we have obtained additional lectures from AIA because of increase of our membership. At what point do we find out when this may happen? ( By the way, how many members do we have?) It seems that in the coming year our membership should increase much more than it has in the past. Trouble is, in the past Liz handled everything and then just told the rest of us what would happen. So we functioned like well behaved sheep who just followed along.

When AIA sends us a lecturer just what does it cost us? Do we have to pay for lodging or local transportation? Or does AIA pay that? The only thing I know is that those going to dinner with the speaker chipped in for his/her dinner. In the past I have picked up the hotel bill for speaker or arranged for and paid for Supershuttle to get the speaker to and from the airport, but again I don't know if this was for AIA speakers or chapter arranged speakers.

As far as I know, we are just getting the 2 lectures from the national office this year. One of them is the Kress lecture, though, which may count as more to them since it's a special lecture. I haven't heard anything about additional lectures, but it would be a very good thing to know since we are in fact hoping for a big membership spike this year. I'll make inquiries in a week or two when the hurly-burly of the beginning semester settles down a little!

It is amazing that you can even think about AIA these days. I had truly forgotten that this is the opening of a new school year as I have now been retired for eight years. Have a good first semester. AIA stuff can wait until you get settled in or if you never do, until you can at least think of something else

Kathryn,

Our membership, according to the national office, is at 65 people. As for the AIA lecturer's expenses, this varies depending whether the person is a Kress lecturer or if it is a general lecturer. If it is a general lecturer then I think we are responsible for the hotel and meals. The national office will pay for travel and honorarium. If the person is a Kress lecturer then all of the expenses should be paid. Having said that, we should still take the speaker out to dinner.

Long story about how I stumbled across this, but noticed that the School of International Letters and Cultures has a lecture series too.
Wondered if others might be interested...
One that I thought might overlap our interests is offered on November 5.
The Manuscript of the Monument: Illuminating Alexander the Great in the 14th C.

For additional info on other lectures.. they gave an email address of

The fall schedule is up! I'll be adding details to the later fall lectures and the spring lectures, as we get those finalized.

PLEASE NOTE our new venue and time for the fall lectures. There is a slight possibility that these may yet change, due to a new classroom scheduling procedure at ASU, but I'll get any changes posted as soon as I can.
