Here is another forum to encourage you members to engage each other on a more intellectual or stimulating level. Many of you have interests more deeply rooted in the new world than on "classical" archaeology and I feel it is crucial to respond to the interests of our members. In this forum it would be wonderful to see some nice back-and-forth between our members, perhaps on a more anthropological bent, about new world cultures and sites. Again many of you have traveled to related sites, while others are interested in pursuing travel and might be seeking advice. Have fun!

My start in archaeology was working in site surveying and site recording on BLM lands in the Yuma area. I am familiar with many of the sites in our area either on BLM lands or on other federal lands like Kofa Wildlife Refuge. Unfortunately I no longer have a 4 WD so cannot reach some of the more interesting sites. We specialize in this area in petroglyphs, rock alignments and most special of all, geoglyphs.

One area that is considered a site that shows relation to both Hohokam and Patayan pre-cultures is the petroglyph site at Painted Rock( no painted rocks, just carved rocks here). I have done lots of work here and am reasonably familiar with the site. If anyone has not been there and would like a "guide" I can arrange to meet you there. This site is west of Gila Bend and is closer to Phoenix than it is to Yuma. No 4 WD vehicles are needed here. Facilities include a camp toilet, picnic tables, a ramada with tables and camp sites. Forest service fees are required for camping. There is no water at the site. E-mail me if you are interested in visiting this site.

I am also interested in corresponding with and discussing any other AZ archaeology related topics. We live in an archaeologically rich area.
